The Los Fresnos Performing Arts Department held their first play of the season on October 16, 18, and 19 at the recently opened Los Fresnos Performing Arts Center.
The play was called Holy Mother of Bingo!, a murder mystery dinner theater. The shows on October 16 and October 18 fully sold out, which was about 128 guests each day, not including all the cast members. Due to the sellouts, performing arts teacher Mrs.Topete added an addtional date on October 19. There were 30 cast members who came out in the play and interacted with the audience.
The play was about an innocent bingo fundraiser at our Mother of Mercy Church, when the sisters of this church mysteriously drop dead. Throughout the whole play there was a large fight, leading to the involved people to accuse each other of being the murderer.
The audience got to vote who they thought the killer was and treated to Robyn’s Cheesecake Cafe and Ricardo’s Restaurant as the main food source and dessert. There were five rounds of bingo with acting between each round and kills. As the play reached the end ,the killer was caught while saying their own unique dialogue to the audience, and their motive for why they did it. The twist was no matter which show you attended, the killer was different every time.
Mrs Topete was very proud of the students for the shows they put on.
‘’For me this play was very rewarding because i saw where the kids started in the beginning of the year and how much they have grown now.’’ Topete said. ‘’Just seeing the complete show with lots of energy and seeing the audience laughing and interacting with the cast members made me so proud. It’s always an exciting moment when a show sells out.’’
Sophomore Cora Thompson Bodden had mixed feelings performing in the play.
“I was definitely so nervous in the sense that I was going to mess up all my lines, but I’ve performed before so I wasn’t that nervous.’’ Thompson Bodden said. “I would say if I could change one thing about how I acted I would change my projection I didn’t feel like I really was into my character and I was very quiet at some points.”
The performing arts department will hold their first major play of the year, Annie, from December 11-13, at 7PM at the Performing Arts Center. The price is $10 per ticket and the performance will be based on the original Annie Broadway.
