On November 7, country singer Cody Johnson released an official studio version of his cover of a song titled “Travelin’ Soldier” to all major music streaming platforms, and it is quickly rising in popularity.
The song was originally released by Dixie Chicks in 2002, which went on to become number one on the U.S. country charts the following year. It was clearly a big hit at the time, as was Cody Johnson’s acoustic cover that he released in 2022. The cover quickly went viral, reaching what is currently an immense 59 million views on YouTube, and fans have wanted an official studio release since.
In honor of Veterans Day, Johnson finally gave what his fans had wanted for years. In just the first four days of its studio release, “Travelin’ Soldier” has obtained over 4 million streams on Spotify alone, reaching #8 on Spotify’s Weekly Top Songs USA and #4 on Apple Music. It is clearly a song that is rapidly gaining popularity, being one that is loved by many in the country music fan community.
Junior Javier Espinoza, for instance, is one of these people who have been looking forward to the studio release of this song since the acoustic cover a few years ago.
“I’ve been waiting since the acoustic version came out,” Espinoza said. “It just hit different and gave me a crazy feeling when I heard it. I only wished that I could hear it on other platforms and not just YouTube.”
As for those who did not even know about the song until its studio release, there are of course many who find the new song to be a good one. Freshman Sefora Nunez, for example, is one of these people.
“I like it,” Nunez said. “I feel like the chorus is what hits the hardest. And I think that Cody Johnson has made it better than the first version because he has that country voice that gives the feel to it.”
Thus, it is clear that “Travelin’ Soldier” has been and still is continuing to grow into a major hit among those who love country music. Having been first sung by the Dixie Chicks in the early 2000s and now by Cody Johnson, it appears that the song shall certainly not be one that will be forgotten. Whether Johnson’s studio release has been looked forward to by someone who first heard its acoustic version or simply a new find for one who enjoys country music, it is a song that will continue to become loved by many if it is not already.
