The Los Fresnos Falcons have given their community a reason to cheer as they finished their regular season with a 10–0 undefeated record. Their ability to dominate the field earned them a place in the 6A football playoffs after recording one of the best seasons in school history. All of their efforts, determination and team work have paid off and it has been shown to be predictable that they can go with the best teams in Texas highschool football.
On the field, the Falcons showed consistency, confidence, and resilience. Each week presented different challenges but Los Fresnos rose to the occasion time and again whether it was in comeback victories, or simply shutting down some determined opponents with their dominant defense. The 10–0 record not only shows skill, but the ability to be disciplined and take a stand as a community from start to finish. There has been excitement building, through the community, with fans filling the stands in Falcon pride every Friday night.
To gain a better understanding of what this historic season means for the program, we sat down with Head Coach, Coach Cantu, and starting quarterback Robert Pineda. They offered their thoughts on an undefeated season for the team, the hard work that the team put in behind the scenes, and their mentality going into the playoffs. Their thoughts state the passion, leadership, and dedication behind the Falcon’s amazing run.
Coach Cantu:
- How does it feel to finish the regular season undefeated at 10–0 and officially make the playoffs?
It feels incredible, but more than anything, I’m proud of the effort these young men have put in from day one. Going undefeated is special, but what means the most to me is seeing how they’ve grown as a team — on and off the field.
- What do you think has been the biggest factor behind the team’s success this year?
Our success comes down to discipline and trust. The players trust the system, trust each other, and give 100% every day. The coaching staff and players have worked as one unit all season long.
- Were there any moments during the season when you faced real adversity, and how did the team respond?
Absolutely. Every season has challenges — whether it’s injuries, tough games, or off-field distractions. What stood out this year was how the team stayed calm under pressure and always found a way to respond together.
- How would you describe the mindset and energy of the team heading into the playoffs?
Focused and hungry. The players know the regular season is behind us, and now every game matters even more. They’re locked in and ready to compete.
- What makes this year’s group of players and coaches different from past seasons?
This group truly plays for one another. The leadership from our seniors has been outstanding, and the coaching staff has done a great job preparing them week after week. There’s a real sense of family here.
- How important has the community’s support been to the team’s motivation and confidence throughout the season?
The support from Los Fresnos has been unbelievable. Our fans fill the stands every Friday night, rain or shine, and that energy fuels our players. It’s a great reminder that we’re playing for something bigger than ourselves.
- What has been your favorite game or moment from this undefeated run, and why does it stand out?
I’d say the win that clinched the district title. Seeing the players celebrate together, knowing all their hard work paid off, was a moment I’ll never forget.
- What do you think the team still needs to improve on as you prepare for tougher playoff opponents?
We can always improve in execution and consistency. At this level, the details matter — and we want to make sure we stay sharp in every aspect of the game.
- How do you keep everyone focused and grounded after such a successful regular season?
We remind the team that records reset in the playoffs. What we’ve done so far is great, but the job isn’t finished. It’s about staying humble, working hard, and taking it one game at a time.
- What message would you like to share with the students, fans, and community members who have supported the Falcons all year?
Thank you. Your energy, pride, and encouragement mean the world to us. We feel your support every time we take the field, and we’re going to give everything we have to make Los Fresnos proud.
Quarterback, Robert Pineda:
- How does it feel to finish the regular season undefeated at 10–0 and officially make the playoffs?
It’s an amazing feeling. We worked really hard for this, and to see it all come together means a lot to the entire team. But we know this is just the beginning — the real work starts now.
- What do you think has been the biggest factor behind the team’s success this year?
Team chemistry, for sure. Everyone has bought into the same goal. We push each other in practice, support one another, and play as one family.
- Were there any moments during the season when you faced real adversity, and how did the team respond?
There were games where things didn’t go our way early on, but no one panicked. We trusted each other, kept our composure, and found a way to finish strong. That’s what defines this team.
- How would you describe the mindset and energy of the team heading into the playoffs?
We’re confident but humble. We respect every opponent and know we have to earn every win. The energy at practice has been great — everyone’s locked in.
- What makes this year’s group of players and coaches different from past seasons?
It’s the trust and communication we have. The coaches believe in us, and we believe in them. Everyone knows their role, and we all hold each other accountable.
- How important has the community’s support been to the team’s motivation and confidence throughout the season?
It’s huge. Seeing the stands packed with fans, students, and families gives us extra motivation. We play for our town, and we want to make everyone proud.
- What has been your favorite game or moment from this undefeated run, and why does it stand out?
Probably our win against Harlingen, as we were down 20-0 to start the game, but that didn’t stop us from keeping calm and executing on our ends to come back and win the game in overtime. It was also a meaningful district game so that brings more importance into it.
- What do you think the team still needs to improve on as you prepare for tougher playoff opponents?
We’re always working on communication and execution. Little things can make a big difference in the playoffs, so we’re focused on staying sharp.
- How do you keep everyone focused and grounded after such a successful regular season?
We remind each other that every game from here on out is a new challenge. No one’s satisfied yet — we want to keep improving and push as far as we can.
- What message would you like to share with the students, fans, and community members who have supported the Falcons all year?
