The Falcon baseball team has officially ended their season after falling short to the Laredo United Panthers in the second round of playoffs.
The Falcons overall had a season that is unforgettable. They dealt with injuries, adversity, and so many other stuff behind the scenes that only the players and coaches went through.
They finished the season with a 22-16-1 record and 8-0 in district allowing them to capture their 5th gold glove in a row. After defeating Weslaco in the bi-district matchup they had to face the Panthers where they would fall just short at home and ended up losing game 2 at Laredo.
Junior CF Ryan Prepejchal shared what the team had to face in order to get this far.
“This season was full of adversity, but it also showed our resilience,” Prepejchal said. “We had a young group with only a couple of seniors, and after a slow start and a six-game losing streak, we never stopped believing in each other. On top of that, injuries hit us hard and we were without two key starters, but once we got healthy, everything changed. We came together as a family, played for one another, and that helped us go 8-0 in district play and repeat as district champions for the fifth year in a row.”
“Even though we fell short in the second round, we fought until the very end and proved that Los Fresnos baseball culture is still strong. We’ll be back even stronger and more experienced next year,” Prepejchal said.
The Falcons will be in the weight room getting their bodies right to prepare for the following season hoping for a better outcome and a deeper playoff run.
