The Los Fresnos Skills USA Print Tech team competed on February 12 at LFHS to see which four out of the eight participants that competed would be advancing to state. 

The competition took place in room 306 with Mr. Hernandez and consisted of a written test and a screen printing test, both of which tested students’ knowledge of screen printing and their skills on being able to align both channels, print the design smoothly, and take the temperatures in the dryers correctly using a laser temperature gun. 

Student Layla Pena enjoyed the competition against the other schools.

“I liked the hands on experience with screen printing, and I liked that it was hands on and that I had the pleasure and experience of printing my own shirt,” Pena said. 

Due to the lack of help from the actual Skills USA, Mr. Hernandez was the one who needed to judge the test scores, provide shirts for the screen printing portion of the tests, and had lunch for the students who competed. Despite these setbacks, students were able to compete to the best of their abilities in both tests. 

At the end of the competition, four out of the eight contestants were chosen to represent the Los Fresnos Skills USA Print Tech team during state competition from April 8-12, with first and second place doing the actual screen print and third and fourth place taking a technical test.
