On January 14 the Writer’s Block club had its first official meet after school. This first meeting helped give students a sense of what the Writer’s Block club is, what a meeting may consist of, and what activities members may complete during meets.

“The Writer’s Block club is a place for writers and aspiring authors to collaborate their ideas with like minded people,” club founder Aiden Goodner said.

Every Wednesday the Writer’s Block club, sponsored by Mrs. Carmona, is hosted in the library after school from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. The club is instructed by the Goodner, who gave a small presentation to members on a few tips for writing characters, and a short writing exercise alongside it to help with the presentation. 

Students in the club are encouraged to think creatively individually in their writings for activities or their personal writings and sharing with the rest of the group if they wish to do so. Having a system like this allows for the club to remain a safe space for those who wish to write, as well allowing those who would rather simply participate do so without feeling uninvolved in any activities. 

“It helps by allowing a safe space to share their work and allows people to be open with themselves and with others about their writings,” Goodner said.

This club is meant to help students with different kinds of writings, with small “lessons” including tips and tricks to help them better their writing or help them figure out where they want their writings to go.  Club members are able to share ideas and read other members’ works to give feedback on what they write.
