As technology continues to advance, it’s becoming a bigger part of teenagers’ everyday lives. Smartphones and tablets have been changing how teenagers interact in their everyday lives.
According to a study conducted in 2024, 95% of teens have access to a smartphone and 46% of those teens are online for long periods of time. Many of those teens say that technology has changed how they communicate with their friends and family.
Junior Lyla Trejo said that she believes that she spends a little too much time on her cellphone.
“Knowing what is going on in the real world is something good that technology has brought into my life,” Trejo said. “I have set a screen time on my phone and once it goes off I go do something that doesn’t require my phone.”
Junior Marcela Vega believes that her cellphone positively impacts her day to day life.
“Being on social media often inspires me to set goals for myself and become a better person,” Vega said. “If I could change something about technology it would be to have cellular service no matter where I am or what is going on.”
Several students including Junior Gabriel Garza say that technology plays a big role in their school life.
“Technology helps me stay organized with school work using digital calendars that remind me to turn in my assignments one day before they are due,” Garza said. “Having this access can be tempting but I overcome that by setting boundaries on my phone to stay focused and on task.”
Experts say balance is key in finding ways to use technology for learning and connection while also taking breaks to focus on real-world relationships.
As the digital age continues to evolve, one thing is clear: technology isn’t just shaping how teens spend their time, it’s shaping who they’re becoming.
