Battling Depression

Kayla Cantu, Staff Writer

Depression is a battle that almost all of America deals with and sadly can take someone’s life. It is important to know ways that can help with depression symptoms and hopefully be less damaging to a person.

What Causes Depression?

Depression can be caused by trauma, brain structure, and family history. Symptoms of this are feeling sad, empty, hopeless, and having a loss of interest in activities. But it’s better if you see a doctor to get the right diagnosis, they will diagnose you by asking questions regarding your moods, sleep, thought, and appetite.

What could help

Treatments that are used for depression are antidepressant medications and psychotherapy which is speaking to a therapist that can help you cope with negative feelings in a healthy way. If talking talking to someone doesn’t make you feel comfortable, then there are home activities you can do that’ll help.  Activities like painting, exercising, meditating, doing yoga, or just being outside can help you feel more positive. It’s important that everyone with depression knows that they’re not alone. Your school counselors are always there to help and have great resources for students.
