Every year downtown between the Camille Lightner Playhouse and the Children’s Museum of Brownsville, Dean Porter Park hosts the “Holiday Village,” a collection of houses decorated with different themes to celebrate the Christmas season. The Holiday Village will open on November 24.
The village has 34 fourteen-foot-tall houses lined and scattered all over the side of the sidewalks of Dean Porter Park. The houses are filled with Christmas lights, decorations, and themes. Some of the themes include toy workshops, sleigh shops, fishing shops, and even local business or historical themes: public library, Mercy Hospital, the house of Charles Stillman, Brownsville’s founder, and even local churches.
Several Falcons have visited the event, including Senior Alan Chavez.
“I’ve gone there I like once or twice, but from what I’ve seen it’s pretty cool cause they have a bunch of themes and how there are so many houses decorated with lights,” Chavez said.
The event not only includes decorated Christmas houses but as well as an appearance of Santa to take pictures with, live music, and local food vendors who serve delicious delights for all to come.
“I love going there to look at all the different Christmas houses and for the food they sell, like the funnel cakes,” junior Ashley Diaz said.” My mom likes me to go take a picture with Santa with my little cousin.”
