Throughout the school year, Los Fresnos High School’s library hosts many hands on activities, puzzles, a different study and reading areas, as well as places to work on assignments or use the printers.

When asked why it is important to hold such activities in the school library for students, Mrs. Sophia Carmona, library media specialist, stated ”to keep drawing them into the library. The library is a resource hub.”

This is especially useful for students during weeks they have important exams. Having spaces to relax with activities, such as bracelet making or the use of pearl beads to create something, helps students rest their minds and brings stress levels down.

“It helps them destress, it helps with their mental health, it helps them socialize, it helps them study,” Carmona said. 

Having activities like this in the school’s library ensures that students have access to quiet and calming environments that allow them to rest from their school work and activities. LFHS’ library also offers a quiet reading corner, for those who seek a place to enjoy books, and even games like chess to challenge each others’ minds through games of strategy.

“The activities help with collaboration, problem solving skills, and mental health, like destress,” Carmona said. 

With the hosting of these simple yet useful activities, the Los Fresnos library creates a safe place for students to enjoy quiet time, hands on activities, and provides resources for students to enjoy and use for their classes. This has given students not only an important resource and access to books, but a place to destress and socialize when they need a break from their classes.
