Many students are excited for Christmas this year, the food, family joy, and the gift giving. Students across campus have been sharing what they hope to receive this holiday season.
One senior high school student, Camila Elizondo, shared what she was hoping to receive this Christmas.
“I am excited to receive more hair tools and products,” Elizondo said, adding that she is excited to try out a new hairstyle before the year ends.
Senior Kaylie Heyse, also expressed excitement about her Christmas wish list.
“What I am most excited to receive this Christmas year is new makeup,” Heyse said. “I’ve been wanting to try out some new makeup seen on TikTok.”
Shoppers buying gifts this year will notice they are paying more for gifts than last year. A recent article by the New York Post highlighted how Christmas gifts this year are more expensive due to the economy and recently enacted tariffs by the government.
“Forget gadgets and socks. All Americans want for Christmas this year is cash, according to new research. A survey of 5,000 Americans across all 50 states revealed that most 58% would prefer to receive money for the holidays, hoping for an average of just over 600 dollars,” according to the article.
This raises questions about society. Is everything starting to get overpriced or is it because social media puts out an unrealistic image to the world that simply is not real? Elizondo shared her thoughts about this.
“Society caused this because people see unrealistic lifestyles shown in social media that are not real and influencers do this to show high expectations,” Elizondo said.
Heyse also shared her thoughts about this situation.
“Both social media and the economy are to blame,” Heyse said. “Everything is very overpriced, for example – makeup. It always feels like they add 20 dollars extra to the price from what it’s really worth, and also social media is a great factor, they keep showing off new products for customers to keep buying.”
