The Los Fresnos Falcons boys basketball team is set to begin their long awaited season with their season opener against the Sharyland Rattlers on November 14.
The Falcons are coming off a 27-10 year and winning the 32-6A District title. The Falcons advanced to the second round of the playoffs before falling to San Antonio East Central, where they had a lead going into halftime but couldn’t hold on to it.
Now into the 2025-26 season, the Falcons have a big target on their back and big expectations from a lot of people. A key player that graduated was Gio Galvan. He was a big part of the team with his skill and his leadership. That means the next man needs to step up and guys need to take a bigger role this year.
Head Coach Marco Hinojosa is expecting big things from the Falcons this year despite losing key players.
“The goal is what it is every year and that is to stay healthy and win another district title,” Hinojosa said. “Also, we have it a bit more difficult now compared to the teams in the past when it comes to the playoffs. Another big goal that me and the team have is to get past that 2nd round hump and punch our ticket to another sweet 16 game.”
The Falcons will return a good amount of key players this year. Names to watch include Eric Salazar, Andrew Munoz, and Evan McChesney. The trio were the top scorers after Galvan and will take on bigger roles this year not just in scoring but in everything especially taking a role in leading the team. Gus Gonzalez and Dylan Cervantes are also returners that will take on a bigger role, now starting rather than coming off the bench.
Hinojosa detailed on who he is looking at to step up and make a big impact this upcoming season.
“At the end of the day everyone is important on the team,” Hinojosa said. “No one player can be successful without the others. We have a saying this year ‘strength in numbers’ and that is because again we need every single individual to step up and be an MVP at their role. But no doubt I am expecting the returning starters to lead the team and be coaches on the floor.”
