The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been conducting raids in major cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, and, most recently, Minneapolis. Despite the widespread protests across the United States, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has stated that the ICE agents have no intention of stopping these operations.
Noem’s stance was reinforced by Vice President J.D. Vance. When speaking on a FOX NEWS broadcast on January 7th, 2026, Vice President Vance said ICE would now be going “door-to-door” in the approaching months to continue President Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan.
Reportedly, ICE will up their presence in the Rio Grande Valley and continue deporting people.
The raids are highly controversial and face a lot of backlash.
“ICE and the Trump Administration are insensitive and inhumane to the people they deport,” junior Krystal Lopez said.
Another student who prefers to stay anonymous believes that “ICE raids are an abuse of power and that if they were to properly escort people who are a danger to the U.S. out, it would be more ethical.”
