Former Beatle Paul McCartney recently hosted his Got Back concert at San Antonio’s Alamodome on October 25. McCartney started the concert around 8:00 pm and played for around three hours. The San Antonio concert was the only Texas performance of the Got Back tour.
The setlist featured songs ranging from The Beatles’ very own Help! album to his own My Valentine album. A crowd of over 45,000 people were there to enjoy and interact with the music, with Paul McCartney even having had the crowd sing the words for about half of a song, not to mention having the crowd singing during “Hey Jude.” Some other things as of note were the pyrotechnics featured on Live And Let Die, the raised stage for Blackbird, and even a partial ukulele partial regular performance of George Harrison’s “Something.” I myself enjoyed the performance of In Spite Of All The Danger”, a song recorded before they were The Beatles, and I’ve Got A Feeling, featuring a video recording of John Lennon singing some of the song.
Some were in awe of the non-stop three hour performance, considering Paul McCartney’s age of 83. However, McCartney doesn’t plan on the tour stopping any time soon, having a number of tour dates still planned for November.
Sophomore Ian Morales had this to say after seeing a clip of the performance.
“That would be very tiring for him considering his age,” Morales said. “I’ve never seen a person that old perform. His body should be a bit weak for his age.”
Journalism teacher Mr. Zamora is impressed with McCartney’s drive and energy at his age.
“Paul is my favorite Beatle and it’s amazing that he still has the energy to do his tour since he’s already been touring for 60 something years,” Zamora said.
Needless to say, Paul McCartney’s performance at the Alamodome was a dream come true for many and will likely be a lifetime memory for those who saw it. People came from all around to see the timeless cultural phenomenon play live, including me.
