Along with a new semester comes new beginnings, a new year, and new people. The start of a new beginning is a breath of fresh air and should be treated as a form of motivation. Embarking on a new semester brings opportunity for new growth and a positive change. Similar to myself, I know that others start this new year with certain academic aspirations, a want in self discipline, and a need in self improvement.
Through beginning new semesters and new school years, I’ve learned how to reflect on lessons I was taught, both academically and through experiences, that intentions with self implementations for a positive effect in my academic life and personal life are crucial. I feel that lots of students don’t realize that there is more to life than being a student. Of course grades, volunteer work, and plans for the future such as taking into consideration certain colleges or universities are far beyond important; however, there is more to life than school. I’ve learned that as important as schoolwork is, you must also improve yourself as a person.
Ways that I am trying to better myself are focusing on what will benefit my long term, such as my grades. I am also working on myself by getting rid of traits that do me no good, such as stressing over “issues” that don’t matter and stressing over the past. If I can not fix something then I should not stress over it. Being a good person fosters relationships, makes you a positive contribution to society, and brightens the lives of others.
Drive for improving yourself can be found anywhere in life. For example, in my favorite movie Ladybird, there is a quote that has hit me since the second I heard it. It is “I want you to be the best person that you can be.” This quote means something to me because when implicated, it can drive someone to reach their full potential. I know that if in this new year and new semester, people look for motivation in their life they will find it because it comes in all different shapes and forms.
All in all, the phrase “New semester, New me” is much more than what you may think. It stands for a new beginning, motivation, and self improvement. I believe that this year everyone should be the best person that they can be both in school and out of school. Both in this semester and in the next.
