Must-Knows

There are many questions often asked is when adopting a puppy, and to be honest, most come with the experience. To help you, however, make an informed decision here are some things you should know.

Things to Consider

Raising a puppy is a full-time job. They require a lot of love and attention. If you think you can’t provide these things for your puppy it is important to reconsider the adoption. Another thing to consider is the breed. Always research the breed and the requirements before adopting a puppy. Make sure that you are bringing them into a welcoming environment with lots of love. It also is a great financial burden as well. You have to pay for adoption fees, vaccines, food, and extras such as toys. All this can be costly but with the right course of action, it won’t be as expensive. Another thing is that puppies love to bite. Although this can be a bit painful and sometimes annoying it is important to know that they believe that they are playing. Just make sure to tell them that biting is not okay, and not allowed.

Potty Training

You should be very cautious about your puppy’s bladder. It is very important to remember a puppy is similar to a baby and if you don’t start potty training habits, you’ll start cleaning a lot more. Start potty training your puppy as soon as they come into your home. Although they will have a few accidents most dogs are fast learners, so be patient and make sure to constantly show them where to go to the restroom.

Responsibility

As much as people want to believe getting a puppy is a one-time job, it takes more. It is important to make sure to contact a vet to communicate when and where to vaccinate him/her. Chances are they only have received their first round of vaccines. Remember every family is different, so find the options that work best for you. Whether that is keeping them in a kennel at night and lose during the day, or sleeping with you and the kennel during the day. The bright side is getting a puppy can boost your mental health and give you more responsibilities

Why Now?

Thousands of puppies have been adopted because of COVID-19. More and more people have more time at home as well as more free time. This pushed many people to adopt while in quarantine. There are many options for rehoming a dog. You can go on craigslist to see listings near you or visit local shelters. If you and your family want to adopt a puppy go to your local adoption center or find a rehomer near you.
