My name is Noemi Pacheco. I’m a student at Los Fresnos United and I enjoy cooking whether it’s desserts or meals. I will be showing all types of recipes, especially Mexican cuisine because it has played a big role in my life. Today I will be showing you how to make some scrumptious Buñuelos. Buñuelos are fried dough fritters that can be paired with hot chocolate on a winter day.
Buñuelos
*Ingredients*
1 cup warm water
1 teaspoon of baking powder
150 grams of vegetable or pork lard
1 pinch of salt
500 grams of flour
Oil for frying
Granulated sugar and ground cinnamon
Tip: you can use premade flour tortillas; make sure your oil reaches 350 Fahrenheit before putting your dough/tortilla in
(if using premade tortillas, skip all the way to step 9 )
- Mix all your dry ingredients together in a bowl
- Slowly incorporate your warm water to you dry mixture
- Your dough should be semi ready by this time ,your going to add the lard and mix
- Now that it has been mixed knead the dough for 8-10 minutes
- Once kneaded let rest for 30 minutes in a bowl with a towel over it
- While the dough is resting start warming up your oil and prepare your cinnamon sugar coating
- For the coating you just need to mix sugar and ground cinnamon
- After the resting period make balls out of the dough and roll them out to be an 8-10 inch circle.
- Put in oil and with metal tongs submerge the dough under the oil to reduce air pockets forming
- Once it looks golden brown and crispy put it on a paper towel
- Make sure that right away you sprinkle you sugar coating so it sticks to the bunuelo
- Lastly all you have left is to whip up a hot chocolate and enjoy it with your loved ones.
Enjoy!
