The Rise of Asian Hate Crimes

Gema Jimenez, Staff Writer

Asian-American attacks have been increasing by high numbers all over the United States.

Some people are angry, frustrated, depressed with what is going on in the country. Hate crimes towards Asian Americans started to increase up to 115%.

A case in Atlanta that involved eight people, including six Asian women, ended in tragedy when they were killed in a shooting. Another case in San Francisco, California that involved an 84-year-old Thai immigrant who died by being violently shoved to the ground during his morning walk.

There has been at least 2,800 incidents across the United States that have been reported. The highest number of attacks that have occurred has been in California in highly populated Asian American areas.

Some people have joined the Stop AAPI Hate to help defend the Asian community in the United States. There has also been people that donate to stopaapihate.org which is one of the front runners that support and help put an end to crimes that have been committed against Asians-Americans.

Other ways that you can help is to sign their collective community of defending Asian-Americans. You can also donate money to the AAPI which shares resources to the victims, their families, and other community members. The money goes towards healthcare services or food that is needed. If you witness a hate crime against anyone, you need to report the incident as soon as possible. It is everyone’s job to speak out against hate crimes and racism. It is important to advocate and understand how important it is to help speak out for equality and justice.
