Royal Drama

Many people within Buckingham Palace must have feared this interview, but Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s discussion with Oprah Winfrey revealed a lot more than people were expecting. Could this possibly destroy the Royal Family? From race to suicidal thought, the coupled spilled everything people wanted to know about what goes on in royalty.

Meghan has hinted before that her mental health suffered when she was a Royal, but during her interview with Oprah she spoke for the first time about how bad her experience had been. She said that life as a royal was so isolating and lonely, and that she felt so unsupported by the family, that she contemplated suicide while pregnant with her son Archie. She also felt unprotected from them.

“I went to the institution, and I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help, I said I’d never felt this way before … and I was told that I couldn’t, that it wouldn’t be good for the institution,” Meghan said. She also sent emails begging for help.

Another topic that rose during the interview was race. Meghan said there was concern throughout the royal family about her baby’s skin tone. Meghan told Winfrey that a member of the family was concerned on how dark their unborn baby Archie’s skin would be while she was pregnant.

There were several “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born,” she said.

Meghan and Harry did not reveal the person who was concerned, however they did say it was not the Queen or Prince Phillip.

With being in a Royal Family, there are not a lot of things you can do. Meghan and Harry felt trapped in their own family.

“My father and my brother, they are trapped,” Harry said, adding,”It’s a very trapping environment that a lot of them are stuck in.”

Harry said he could not have left the family had he not met Meghan. “I was trapped, but I didn’t know I was trapped,” he said. “They don’t get to leave,” he added of his relatives, saying they are “trapped within the system” and that he has “huge compassion for that.”

Meghan also never got proper training or guidance on the role she had. She was very embarrassed over many of things.”Unlike what you see in the movies, there’s no class on how to speak, how to cross your legs, how to be royal,” she said, describing how she would Google the words of the British national anthem at night to avoid embarrassing the family.

One last big thing that caught peoples attention was family drama. Meghan was asked about making her sister-in-law, Kate, cry while preparing for the wedding with Harry. Although Someone did cry, it was not Kate. Meghan said that “it was reversed.” Kate made Meghan cry during a discussion about the ceremony, and months later the incorrect story appeared in the media. Kate apologized to Meghan and gave her flowers. Kate added that “she is a good person.”
