New Years During Covid

Valeria Gonzalez, Staff Writer

With New Year’s just around the corner, the end of this dreadful year is almost over, unfortunately, the pandemic isn’t. While there have been reports of a new vaccine in the making, social distancing and the dangers of the virus are still very serious, meaning that public celebrations for the New Year’s holiday are, for the most part, canceled. Not to fear, there are still ways to celebrate the New Year in the comfort and safety of your own home.

The end of this incredible year should be celebrated with all the best activities, as long as they keep everyone safe. One of the most popular ways to communicate with others from a distance this year has been video calls on Zoom, Facetime, and Google Meets. Although celebrating through video chats aren’t the same, there are still ways to enjoy holiday activities such as group watch parties. Watching movies in an online group has also become very popular during the pandemic and has been more than successful for everyone watching together.

At home cookouts and fun meals are also a great way to celebrate. Finding fun recipes online to cook with family and friends is easy and fun for everyone. New Years’ themed desserts, homemade meals, even take out is perfect for the celebration. Watching holiday specials and shows for the New Year is always a fun and exciting way to count down to the new year. Events such as the New Years Ball Drop in New York will be canceled due to covid but that doesn’t exclude using your own countdown for the special holiday tradition. While they are difficult to keep, there is still time to plan for New Year’s resolutions, whether it be to become a better person and care for yourself more, it’s always good to have some goals for the new upcoming year.

The year is almost over and while there have been ups and downs (many many downs) this will definitely be a year to remember for many more New Years to come.
