The NFL recently announced that Puerto Rican singer Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, also known as Bad Bunny, will be singing at this season’s Super Bowl on February 8, 2026.
Bad Bunny was the most-streamed artist globally on Spotify from 2020-23, and was third last year, while being one of the the most popular Latin singers in the world. He also does not tour in the United States due to concerns regarding ICE raids, yet remains very popular among many people within the country.
Despite the seemingly exciting news that Bad Bunny will be singing at the Super Bowl, however, there are mixed feelings that have emerged upon this announcement from both teens and adults alike. There are those who are excited or indifferent towards the matter, but some have their reasons as to why they do not approve of it. Bad Bunny’s liberal political beliefs and non-English music result in certain people’s disapproval of the upcoming performance. A petition on change.org to switch the halftime performance to country star George Strait currently has 60,000 signatures.
Some people also simply just do not like Bad Bunny’s music, such as junior Colton Keener.
“The music has not been good for the past ten years at the Super Bowl, so I expect nothing different,” Keener said. “Jay-Z is the one in charge of putting the shows together, and they are never that good.”
However, one person that approves of and appreciates that Bad Bunny will be singing is junior Aiden Nares.
“I feel like it’s a good thing because it shows the diversity of Hispanic culture,” Nares said. “We have a bunch of ethnicities here [in the United States].”
Thus far, the NFL has not entertained the idea of switching Bad Bunny for another performer. The halftime show is still scheduled to go on with Bad Bunny, and millions of people around the world will tune in to watch it, while some may switch to another channel while he is performing.
