The arrival of October signals the start of pumpkin patches and more fall activities in the lower Rio Grande Valley, providing a festive fall tradition for families across the region. There are many ranches in the lower valley that make their ranches into huge pumpkin patches with a ton of activities.
One of the popular locations is Big Reds Ranch in San Benito (34179 FM 1577 San Benito, TX 78586), which has been hosting many types of family friendly seasonal events for years, including their annual pumpkin patch.
Meanwhile the T-Ranch in La Feria (25492 FM2556, La Feria, TX 78559) has made itself into one of the biggest pumpkin patches in South Texas since 2019. This ranch offers a vibrant range of attractions that go beyond a simple pumpkin picking. They have a pumpkin house which is a popular photo op, hay maze, and even being able to interact with their cute farm animals like sheep and goats, they even have games like giant Jenga and corn hole and live music on the weekends.
Closer to home, the Fragile Planet Wildlife Park in Los Fresnos, (34748 FM2480, Los Fresnos, TX 78566) has hay mazes, a pit filled with corn, a petting zoo and fun wagon rides.
Lots of people look forward to these patches every year. To make old memories new ones or even make new memories with new people who you consider are really family.
Sophomore Clarissa Morales loves going with her family.
“My family loves to go to T-ranch to take photos and go through the mazes,” Morales said.
