Under the Monday night lights with energy running through the stands and pads crashing on the field , the Los Fresnos Falcons held their spring football game on May 5. The scrimmage not only showcased the teams offseason progress, but also ignited excitement for the fall, where expectations are high coming off a district championship in 2024.
Head football coach David Cantu stated what were his overall impressions of the team’s performance during the spring game.
“We have a team that has playmakers on both sides,” Cantu said. “A lot of speed showed on defense yesterday. The defensive line looks like it’s gonna be one of the stronger parts of our team. Offensively, just the speed and play making ability we have. The offensive line that’s where the most new faces are, but we still have a summer, scrimmage, and non district games to prepare so at the end of the day the coaching staff feels really good about this team.”
Cantu also claimed what are his goals and expectations for the upcoming season.
“The goals and expectations of the 2025 season , just regardless of what kind of adversity we face, we just take one game at a time we don’t get ahead of ourselves we go out and play for each other,” Cantu said. “The score board will take care of itself, so we’re not worried about wins and losses, we’re just worried about playing the game the right way and playing it all out and representing all the people who show up to support us.”
Junior quarterback Robert Pineda talks about how this spring game helped evaluate his progress.
“The spring game helped me evaluate my individual progress because it allowed me to see what I need to work on for the upcoming season, so it was a good measurement of where the teams are at and to where I’m at and it’s good to see what mistakes we need to clean up for the season,” Pineda said.
Pineda also stated what he is planning to bring on and off the field this forthcoming season.
“On and off the field I just want to be a good leader and to bring great enthusiasm to the team in the locker room and show them what we need to work on and just show them how to work so they can follow me,” Pineda said.
