As the month of March draws near, UIL competitors prepare for a rigorous time due to upcoming district tournaments that could decide possible advancements to regional meets.
Although the University Interscholastic League (UIL) creates a stage for schools across the state of Texas to compete against one another in academics, athletics , and music,. the Falcons UIL team is on the academic side. Students at LFHS who participate in the academic UIL compete in events that range from spelling to science.
Junior Miriam Trujillo, a varsity literary criticism participant is gearing up for the district competition.
“I feel that I must prepare and study more for district if I wish to get a spot on the regional team,” Trujillo said.
As the pressure rises, a sense of community that was already present beforehand grows and participants like Kenya Silva enjoy the bonding with her team.
“I am glad to have a team that I can rely on,” Silva said.
Although it may be challenging and time consuming, participants are working their hardest and plan to deliver Falcon pride and advance to regionals.
