Notre Dame and Ohio State are the last two teams standing for the college championship game and are set to battle for the National Championship tonight, January 20.
In the semifinal round, Notre Dame defeated Penn State at the Orange Bowl with a final score of 27-24. In the other semifinal game, Ohio State played defeated Texas at the Cotton Bowl with a final score of 28-14.
Notre Dame has been hoping to break their streak and win a national title this season. They haven’t won a title since 1988 against the University of Miami.
Ohio State also has not won a championship game since 2014. They won against Oregon and had a final score of 42-20.
Los Fresnos Principal Justin Stumbaugh thinks Ohio State will win the championship game.
“I think they are better on offense,” Stumbaugh said. “They will just be able to do a little bit more on offense than Notre Dame will.”
Senior Heriberto Villanueva thinks Ohio State will win as well.
“They just look like a more dominant team that will be able to win,” Villanueva said.
Journalism teacher Ronnie Zamora Jr. thinks Ohio State will win because they have better athletes.
“They’ve also been in the playoffs before and big games and Notre Dame is pretty new to this stage,” Zamora said.
However, he hopes Notre Dame wins because they haven’t won in a long time.
“I really like their coach,” Zamora said. “Rudy was one of my favorite movies growing up which is based in Notre Dame.”
