Glady’s Porter Zoo hosted its annual Zoo Nights and Lights event, sponsored by McDonalds, in the evening from December 6-8.
Many activities for children and adults alike took place to spread Christmas joy. There were holiday crafts, Christmas Karaoke, gingerbread decorating, and a special visit from Santa for the children. For entertainment, many performances occurred ranging from choir groups to bands and dancers; all participated in hopes of raising holiday glee. Additionally, a Christmas tree contest for zoo employees was held. Zoo staff were separated into teams and competed for the “Best Christmas Tree” title, and the public chose their favorite tree. The main events were the fantastic animal shows and awe-inspiring light displays.
Junior Josephine Longoria had a great time at the event.
“I had a lot of fun at the zoo that Saturday the performances and lights were amazing,” Longoria said.
The Marketing Coordinator for Glady’s Zoo stated that admission was $5 per person, however, this fee could be waived if the visitor brought a new toy that cost at least $5. The toys given were taken to the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley to be given to children in need. In addition, those who had Glady’s Porter Zoo membership had free admission.
