Black Friday and Cyber Monday recently kicked off the unofficial start of Christmas shopping, highlighting the numerous sales across many in-store and online storefronts. Many studies show Americans across the country often take advantage of these sales, spending high amounts of money during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
In terms of online shopping, people spent around $10 Billion during Black Friday, an increase from 2023’s $9.8 Billion spent. An average person spends around $400-$800 during Black Friday. With both in-store and online shopping, money spent is estimated to be around $20 Billion. Clothing and electronics are the most commonly bought items.
Black Friday isn’t the only time great deals are held by the end of the year, with Cyber Monday being the online equivalent of Black Friday. Cyber Monday is the Monday after Thanksgiving weekend, this year falling on December 2. By the end of the day, people spent a high $13.3 Billion, with millions spent every minute, easily beating previous records. These two days show the sheer amount of money spent, showing just how much people take advantage of the deals.
Los Fresnos students did not miss out on the deals, with many buying gifts for themselves, family, and friends.
Senior Christian Davila’s biggest purchase was AirPods.
“For me, I needed some headphones,” Davila said. “I was needing an upgrade after my headphones lasted for a couple years. That was my first big purchase with the money from my current job.”
