After a season filled with thrilling victories, including claiming the 32-6A District Championship, the Los Fresnos Falcons football team is set to make some noise in the playoffs. The Falcons boast an impressive 8-1 record going into their last regular season game of the season against the Hanna Eagles on November 8.
The team is ready to face their next big challenge. Fans and players are eager for what’s to come as the Falcons aim to advance far in the playoffs. The Falcons are set to play their first playoff game against Edinburg Economedes at home on November 15.
Falcons Head Coach David Cantu described his emotion after winning his first district championship at Los Fresnos.
“It means a lot,” Cantu said. “That’s what they hired me to do four years ago, so it was a process. A really good journey and no group of kids and coaching staff deserves it more. It’s been a tough road, but something that we savor.”
Cantu also stated the approach and preparation he and the coaching staff will put into the game against Economedes.
“It’s the same because we put so much into every single one of our games that we just continue to do what we do,” Cantu said. “The only thing is there’s more information. We trade every single video and we end up seeing every single game, so it’s just more volume we need to study.”
Senior Left Tackle Juan Betancourt described how he mentally prepares himself for the intensity of the playoff games.
“Watching film, focusing on studying my opponent, and practicing hard every day,” Betancourt said.
Betancourt also stated what some team goals are going into the playoffs.
“Making it past the first round, second round and third round,” Betancourt said.
Senior Cornerback Rodolfo Moreno says what personal goals he has set for the playoffs.
“Right now I’m just focusing on progressing as a player to help the team out,” Moreno said.
Moreno also says how he is feeling heading into the playoffs.
“I feel confident and humble just to get my mindset ready, because going to the playoffs and going further, the teams get harder,” Moreno said. “So just go to get my mind right and know the calls, trust the coaches, and trust my team.”
