Los Fresnos CISD has no school for Friday, March 29th for the Good Friday holiday. Along with having Friday off, LFCISD is one of a few school districts that have Easter Monday off as well, giving us a four day week before and after Easter, as well as giving us a four day weekend to get to relax and enjoy spending time with our families.
To help me understand what Good Friday and Easter is to other people I was able to ask my peers what it means to them and if they have any special traditions their family participates in.
What does Easter mean to you ? And do you guys have any specific or special traditions you and your family do every year ?
Mariela Rodriguez detailed what the Easter holiday means to her.
“Easter to me means family time,” Rodriguez said. “Every Easter, my family rents a water slide for all of us to use because it’s always so hot so I guess that is a tradition and it also means family competition to see who gets the golden egg.”
Juan Carlos Betancourt described what his family usually does on Easter
“On Sunday we go to church in the morning and celebrate, and afterwards we go to the park behind the church and hide eggs for the little ones to find,” Betancourt said. “From there, we usually go home and celebrate with family and friends at our house and have a BBQ to celebrate. “
Katherine Farrar enjoys spending time with her family over the holiday.
“I’m not super religious, but to me it means it’s a time to be able to come together with family and friends and to celebrate,” Farrar said. “We do the egg hunt and the youngest member of the family always goes out first and then the oldest goes last. A tradition we used to do a lot was all the family having a get together prior to Easter and painting the eggs. “
Each family has their own special traditions they participate in and each just as special. Religious or not, everyone will have the opportunity to enjoy spending quality time with their loved ones over the four-day weekend.
