NBA All-Star Weekend
NBA All-Star Weekend took place on February 18th, 2024 in Indianapolis. Events that took place during the weekend included the AT&T Slam Dunk Contest, Stephen Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu 3-Point challenge, Starry 3-Point Contest, Kia Skills Challenge, and The All-Star Game. This year’s All-Star Weekend had everyone talking about how good it was and about all the records that were broken.
AT&T Slam Dunk Contest
Mac McClung won this year’s dunk contest for the second year in a row. Despite being in the G-League, McClung was the best by far in comparison to the other competitors which included Jaylen Brown, Jaime Jacquez, and Jacob Tobin.
Stephen Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu 3-Point Challenge
This was the first-ever NBA vs. WBNA 3-Point Challenge which is significant since it means there is change in women in sports. Although Iodescu came up short with the win, the moment was still amazing since she was the first to do something like this. Curry won the contest with 29 points while Ionescu scored 26.
Starry 3-Point Contest
Damian Lillard won the 3-Point Contest for the second year in a row this year. The participants of the contest were Trae Young, Karl-Anthony Towns, Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, Lauri Markkanen, Tyrese Halliburton, Malik Beasley, and Jalen Brunson. The finalists were Karl-Anthony Towns, Trae Young, Tyrese Haliburton, and the winner, Damian Lillard with 26 points.
Kia Skills Challenge
The three teams that competed in this year’s skills challenge were Team Pacers with Tyrese Halliburton, Bennedict Mathurin, and Myles Turner, Team Top-Picks with Anthony Edwards, Paolo Banchero, and Victor Wembanyama, and Team All-Stars with Scottie Barnes, Tyrese Maxie, and Trae Young. The home team, the Pacers, won.
The All-Star Game
This year Giannis’s team, the East beat Lebron’s team, the West 211 to 186. Giannis’s team made history by scoring 211 points which is now the most points scored in an All-Star game. Damian Lillard was named the MVP of the All-Star Game with a total of 39 points. Many people were upset that Tyrese Haliburton was not the MVP since he also had a great game and the game was held in Indianapolis, where he plays for the Pacers.
