The Los Fresnos High School tennis team has been competing in tournaments since the past year to represent their school.
The tennis class provided at Los Fresnos High School teaches students how to play the basics of tennis, and the Falcons compete against other schools in district 32-6A.
With practice being held after school throughout the week, students have been training for upcoming tournaments. Determination beats out the strong heat, and students make an effort to show up to practices in order to improve their skills. Students may practice after school by rallying with one another, or receiving feeds from the coach.
Sophomore member on the tennis team Victoria Garza commented on how she prepares for upcoming tournaments.
“I prepare for tournaments by going to practice everyday and trying my best to improve,” Garza said. “By realizing that progress isn’t made overnight, I continue to show up even if getting better seems impossible. Winning is what motivates me to keep playing in the end.”
Head Coach Jesus Gutierrez detailed the preparation that goes into getting his students ready for tournaments.
“It takes practice, dedication, and time.” Gutierrez said.
The 32-6A district tournament date is still to be determined, but if the Falcons place within the top four teams in their district, they will advance to area. If the Falcons place first or second place team in area, they will then advance to the regional tournament.
