Coming back to school in the new year means a whole new schedule for each and every student. This can be difficult for some, if not all, due to the fact that it’s a new environment and can be hard to adjust to the new and fast paced start on a variety of new subjects.
This however, not only applies to the students but as well as the teachers because they get a new set of kids, each differing from the last. The plus side is that about 90% of the students stick with their second period teacher and class subject so they have one period they know they won’t have to worry about because it’s with the same peers they’ve had since the beginning.
The new semester started just this past week on January 8th, and since being back there’s been some mix emotions on how the students feel about their classes. This is because half the kids have all the electives classes this semester and the other half have all their core classes and have been getting swamped with homework and studying. Speaking on behalf of this subject I was able to ask some students in my class their perspective on how they feel coming back to school and have been receiving answers all over the scale.
“I personally am enjoying every single one of my classes,” junior Mariela Rodriguez said. “My teachers are great, I’ve began to socialize and became acquaintances with some kids in my classes I thought I would never know or get to talk to. Overall, I’ve had a good beginning to the new semester.”
Junior Katherine Farrar detailed the differences in her schedule.
“The fall semester was pretty brutal for me considering I had my major/core classes, which consisted of dual or AP classes, compared to now where I just have my elective classes and aren’t so stressed over the smallest things.” Farrar said. “I get to enjoy to learn what it is I wanna do when I get older.”
