Christmas Festivities

Christmas is celebrated by many people around the world. It is celebrated on December 25th. It is a day where families and friends gather together to spend some quality time, give out presents, eat homemade food, etc.! Christmas was made by Romans back in 336 A.D. It was created to remember the birth of Jesus Christ and how he passed away for us! On this day, many children are ecstatic to know or think that a man named Santa Clause will be delivering their presents under the Christmas tree! Although, many people celebrate differently!

For instance, Hanukkah is a Jewish festival celebrated from December 10th through December 18th. On Hanukkah, people light a candle in each of the eight days that are celebrated.  In fact, the word Hanukkah means “dedication” in Hebrew. On these days, many people give gifts, sing, eat many traditional foods, etc. Hanukkah was created by Judas Maccabeus after his success against King Antiochus IV Epiphanes. Not only is Hanukkah celebrated, but Kwanzaa as well!

Kwanzaa is held on December 26th and ends on January 1st. It is a celebration of African American culture! Kwanzaa is celebrated in many ways. Many people give gifts, decorate their houses, feast, etc.! Kwanzaa was created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966 after many riots that occurred in Los Angeles. Kwanzaa is also very new and was created earlier than other holidays!
